Bio-inspired Solar Energy Conversion (Research)

Within this research project, interdisciplinary and exploratory research is conducted into new concepts and materials for solar energy conversion and the new generation of electro-optical applications for a creative and sustainable future on earth and in space, drawing inspiration from nature and, in particular, photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is considered one of the most important biological processes on Earth, allowing plants and other organisms to harvest energy from the sun to power life. Over millions of years of evolution, photosynthesis has evolved into a very complex system with ingenious interactions, possible underlying quantum phenomena and biological nanostructures, from which many lessons can be learned.
