Title

Persistent Grammars of Educational (In)Equality. (Research)

Abstract

As part of the Franqui Chair, Emeritus Professor Piet van Avermaet is hosting a series of lectures on diversity and equal opportunities in education. The series starts with an inaugural lecture in which he briefly discusses persistent grammatical errors that contribute to the reproduction of inequality in education. These points will be further explored in follow-up lectures, focusing on topics such as thematisation of diversity, multilingualism as a handicap, and language proficiency as a condition for excellence, among others. Based on his rich experience as a professor and scholar, he offers a combination of theoretical insights and practical examples to show what is needed for a more inclusive education system.
