Title
Enhancing person centricity and participation in healthcare (Research)
Abstract
At present, attention of person centricity and patient participation in public healthcare is increasing, and efforts are made to better take the personal health goals of patients into account. However, much remains to be done to translate such attention and the extensive social and scientific discourse on the topic into broad practical implementation.
To further shape and widely implement patient centric and participatory approaches in public healthcare, a better understanding on patients preferences, attitudes, and unmet needs is crucial, also with regard to novel evolutions in healthcare, including digital applications. Besides, the hurdles and opportunities for more patient centricity and patient participation as experienced by patients, healthcare professionals and other key actors in the healthcare landscape need to be better understood.
Against this background, this project aims to investigate the opportunities and barriers for a more patient centric and participatory public health, with special attention for patient rights, autonomy and governance, continuity of care, and technological innovation. Related to this main goal, the project will look into the educational needs of various actors (patients, (future) professionals, the public at large, and any other stakeholder).
Building on literature review and newly generated empirical data (in close collaboration with patients associations and professional organizations), this project will develop a state-of-the-art framework to improve patient centered care and to enhance patient participation in public healthcare.
