Title

Appwel, monitoring tool for the well-being in secondary and primary education (Research)

Abstract

This doctoral research investigates Appwel, an instrument developed to systematically monitor and promote school well-being among adolescents in secondary education. The research comprises four interlinked studies. The first study rigorously examines the validity and reliability of the Appwel questionnaire through psychometric analysis. The second study tracks longitudinal trends in students' well-being throughout their educational trajectory. The third study focuses on students with accelerated or delayed study paths, exploring potential correlations between school well-being and academic (dis)continuities. The fourth study adopts a qualitative approach to investigate how schools adapt their practices after integrating Appwel. Perspectives from school leaders, student support teams, teachers, and students are systematically analyzed to capture perceived changes in schools. This research contributes to the broader academic discourse that positions student well-being as a central educational goal (Hascher & Edlinger, 2009; Kiuru et al., 2020), and addresses the pressing need for valid, context-sensitive instruments that support data-informed educational improvement.
