Project R-5321

Title

An integrated network and living lab for user-centered innovation in elderly care (Research)

Abstract

The healthcare innovation experimental 'CareVille Limburg: Miving Care' is localized in Genk Hasselt region and aims at functioning as an innovative test platform/ecosystem in which healthcare innovations can be developed and tested on a scientifically sound manner to contribute to the important future societal challenges for a lasting qualitative and financially viable care for the elderly. CareVille Limburg aims at the theme of care mobility. The goal of CareVille Limburg is to let the elder person live longer at home with quality, safety and on an affordable manner through an innovative enhancement of 'care mobility'. We choose for this focus approach from the uniqueness of the region of the experimental (larger rural region with scattered homecare) and the specific competences that are already present in the regional care innovative ecosystem. In our approach care mobility as well as the mobility of the care recipient (eg. Provide mobility, provide social participation, advancing the movement through the transmural chain,...); The mobility of the care product or care process (deliver efficient care products and processes at home eg. Medication, telemonitoring,...), but also the mobility of the caregiver (eg. Efficient care and services at home, movement of caregivers through the transmural chain,...). We focus on innovations that strengthen these mobility aspects from a special focus on the needs of the care recipient and care user (care givers stand central). The experimental therefore strives to evolve from the current, mainly supply-driven, approach towards the care demand and targeted care. The experimental will have special attention for effective realization of the innovations by strengthening the acceptance of innovations by users. Besides successful execution of innovative trial projects as contained in this application, the experimental will also be deployed as an incubator for new innovations. The experimental will be coupled to a strong interdisciplinary platform of care actors, government and business. Innovations that respond to big care challenges and are embedded in policy visions will for that reason special attention through the concrete projects ( eg. Attention for chronical care, problems comorbidities, mental health, care recipient-targeted participative innovations, multidisciplinary approach of elderly care).
