Internationalization

Funding organisation:

Fulbright Commission for Belgium and Luxembourg

What?

The Fulbright Commission would like to inform/remind Belgian universities and university colleges of the existence of the Fulbright Specialist program and the Inter-country Travel Grant Program that allows them to invite U.S. researchers for short-term stays (either 1 week or 2-6 weeks)  in Belgium.

1. Inter-country Travel Grant porgram (1 week)

Approximately 250 American lecturers and researchers representing a variety of academic fields participate in the Fulbright Scholar Program in Europe. Belgian higher education institutions may apply for a travel grant from the Fulbright Commission to support short (up to 1 week) visits by American Fulbright lecturers placed in a European country other than Belgium. The list of the American Fulbright scholars in Europe can be found on the following website: www.fulbright.be/awards/grants-for-american-citizens/inter-country/

Purpose: To facilitate the collaboration between American Fulbrighters and Belgian institutions. Activities can include participation in lectures and attending seminars and conferences.

Lenght of visit:
 max. 1 week

Finances: The Fulbright travel grant will cover the return airfare for the visiting lecturer using the most economical fare. The host institution is expected to cover other resulting expenses (such as living costs and housing).

Deadline: Requests are reviewed on a rolling basis. Since funding is limited, requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

2. Fulbright Specialist Program (2-6 weeks)

Each year, our Fulbright Commission receives funding to help sponsor a specialist for 2-6 weeks to come engage in a short-term collaborative project with a Belgian institution. You can either be matched with a specialist already on the Specialist Roster or put in a named request for a specialist already have contact with. International travel costs and a per day grant payment are funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Participating host institutions cover grantee in-country costs.

Possible activities for which a scholar can be requested, either by name or by academic specialty, include:

• presenting lectures at the university or post-university level;

• participating or leading seminars or workshops at your institution;

• conducting needs assessments, surveys, or institutional or programmatic research

• taking part in specialized academic programs and conferences;

• consulting with administrators and instructors of post-secondary institutions on faculty development

• developing and/or assessing academic curricula or educational materials

• conducting teacher training programs at the university level.

Deadline: Applications are accepted year-round and should be submitted at least 4 months before the anticipated arrival of the specialist in Belgium.
