Green Office loves donuts!

Have you heard of the donut economy? The Green Office approaches sustainability as follows: providing everyone's basic needs while respecting the carrying capacity of our planet. Nobody says it better than economist Kate Raworth. Want to know more? Watch her TED-talk.

Green Office UHasselt welcomes its first students.

‘I was already in the eco-team of the scouts and I try to shop second-hand or in sustainable, local clothes shops. I also went to Prague by train on an Erasmus trip. So I'm excited to work with other students on sustainability.’ Tine says. Besides launching the Green Office, she wants to make vegan and veggie food more accessible for students. Mira adds: 'At the Green Office, you can be part of the change our planet needs, while learning new skills in the process. We set up fun activities, but also weigh in on the university's policies. I would like to reduce the use of disposable plastic water bottles on campus.’

Dreaming together about sustainable education

The Higher Education Summit (hereafter HES) started as every conference starts: a cosy reception to already get to know the participants a bit. During this reception, the alderman for climate, environment and energy, circular economy, sustainable city and international solidarity, Nele Kelchtermans, came to give a brief explanation of the sustainable actions the City of Hasselt is taking. It was very interesting to hear what initiatives the city is taking to make its own operations but also the municipality more sustainable.

Why a Green Office?

Green Office UHasselt lets students take the lead in sustainability. Our goal: a sustainable UHasselt community by informing, inspiring and activating. Both in student life, on campus, in education and in research at our university.

Together with the UHasselt community of students, professors, researchers, staff and management, we make our planet and our future a top priority.

What does our Green Office look like?

The entire UHasselt community can participate in our activities. Our team consists of students, volunteers and staff members who are ready to help you.

You can always sign up as a volunteer or suggest new initiatives! Contact us at greenoffice@uhasselt.be or soon via our social media (@GreenOfficeUHasselt). From September onwards, we will regularly promote initiatives there to look for volunteers.

We are also part of a larger network of Green Offices within Belgium and Europe!

What do we do?

We are your sustainability-contact for sustainable initiatives at UHasselt. We want to increase the visibility of existing sustainability initiatives and go the extra mile.

To make this happen, we organize activities, roll out campaigns and also work closely with UHasselt's policymakers to make the campuses more sustainable.

Want to become a member?

Would you like to start a sustainable activity yourself? Green Office is there to support you. We can help you with the practical and financial aspects, or put you in touch with other initiatives.

Send us a DM on Facebook or Instagram (online from September) or send an email to greenoffice@uhasselt.be.

Would you like to volunteer at one of our activities? Talk to us during the kick-off activities or send us a message via social media. We regularly launch calls for help at our activities.
