With more than 22,000 students, Hasselt is a vibrant and accessible city where young people come for much more than just their degrees. Thursday nights are the traditional highlight of the week—the perfect time to head out with friends and take advantage of student prices in local bars and clubs. At the same time, the city offers plenty of study spots, including the popular "blokbars" (study cafes) during exam periods.
In collaboration with local colleges, UHasselt organizes various initiatives tailored to student life. Annual events like Student Take-Off, the Student Regatta, and the student society elections in Diepenbeek consistently bring a sense of community, connection, and relaxation to the city.
Every faculty has its own student society:
There are also various alternative student clubs and societies:

Students collaborate in teams on projects, getting a first taste of the practical side of their education. They acquire skills that offer significant added value to their future careers.
