Title

Impacts of environmental change on human health and ecosystem functioning (Research)

Abstract

It is increasingly recognized that the health of people is connected to the health of the environment. In the frame of the ongoing global change, humanity is confronted with a challenge to mitigate and counteract the degradation of natural ecosystems as well as the health of the human population. The land use and climate change in combination with contamination of air, water and soil, expose natural ecosystems and humans of all ages to a plethora of environmental stressors. We study environmental insults that jointly underpin the damaging impact of environmental exposures during the lifespan and mechanisms of climate change on ecosystems within the concept of planetary health. We will provide a framework to understand how complex mixtures of environmental exposures induce severe ecosystem damages and health effects directly and through the interaction of humans and environment
