CHIST-ERA ERA-NET - Open & Re-usableResearch Data & Software Call

Research

What?

The CHIST-ERA ERA-NET a consortium of research funding organisations in Europe and beyond supporting use-inspired basic research in Information and Communication Technologies (IC) or at the interface between ICT and other domains.

This call tackles the challenge of open research data and software from the perspective of their possible reuse. The objective is to create the conditions for research in any domain based on open or shared data and software.

The call aims at contributing to the development and dissemination of appropriate research practices across the various research communities and countries. For this purpose, the researchers and their scientific communities are invited to propose, by given discipline, emerging discipline or in an interdisciplinary approach how to apply the principles of Open Science to promote reuse of research data and software.

The aim is to accelerate the emergence of related tools, standards and services. The call covers all types and versions of data and associated metadata: collected, captured, acquired, transformed, simulated, synthetic etc. Applicants should demonstrate how their project will synergise with Horizon Europe initiatives on open research data and more generally foster convergence with one or more international actions and/or infrastructures (eg ESFRI,EOSC, GO FAIR, RDA).

Applicants should address at least one of the following target outcomes:

1. Create, enrich or prepare 'reference data sets' - The objective is to favour the availability and reuse of complex data sets (disparate datasets, multiple formats, variety and heterogeneity of the data). The creation of such reference data sets could, among other things, acknowledge the work of data producers, promote their citation and validate and replicate research results on a larger scale.

2. 'Editorialisation' of data - Reduce the distance between data producer and expected or unexpected data re-user. The objective is to promote reuse for scientific, educational, economic or even journalistic purposes.

3. Processes and tools to describe, share, reference and archive software source code, in particular with the goal to enhance reproducibility of research results. The objective is to develop tools and processes that leverage existing initiatives, such as the Software Heritage universal source code archive and the SWH-ID persistent source code identifiers.
