What?

The King Baudouin Foundation (KBS) and the Belgian Heart Fund have opened a 4 joint calls:

Clinical research in cardiology: This call concerns non-commercial projects for clinical research in the field of cardiovascular pathology. The research must be centered on the patients and aimed to determine the role of medication, intervention, diagnosis, symptoms or prevention in the physiological or pathological processes of the cardiovascular system. Budget: 20.000 EUR

Multicentre randomised clinical trials in cardiology: This call concerns non-commercial projects for multicentre randomised clinical research in the field of cardiovascular research. The research must be centred on the patients and aimed to explore the benefit of interventions (medical or non-medical) in patients with cardiovascular disease. The research should have a multicentre study design with randomisation between intervention and control. The research has to be carried out in 2, or more Belgian institutions. Budget: 100.000 EUR

Prize Dr. Léon Dumont: The Prize Dr. Léon Dumont is a legacy offered to the Belgian Society of cardiology to award research excellence. This Prize concerns basic or clinical research in the field of cardiovascular pathologies. It is is intended as a recognition for realized research in cardiology and an encouragement to continue research in this field. Budget: 40.000 EUR

Basic research in cardiology: This call concerns non-commercial projects for basic research in the field of cardiovascular research. This research encompasses scientific disciplines such as biochemistry, physiology, and pharmacology and their interplay and involves laboratory studies with cell cultures, animal studies or physiological experiments. Patients are not in the centre of the study but biological samples (e.g. blood) can be used for this purpose. Budget: 20.000 EUR
  
  

Who?

The calls Clinical research in cardiology, Multicentre randomised clinical trials in cardiology and Basic research in cardiology are open to researchers employed for more than 2 years in an academic centre, a university hospital or non-university hospital in Belgium. Project leaders of selected project should be a Member of the Belgian Society of Cardiology.

The Prize Dr. Léon Dumont is open to European researchers in cardiovascular medicine, working in a member country of the European Society of Cardiology (see www.escardio.org for the list of countries). Candidates must be actively engaged in research and may not be older than 50 years on 31st December 2023.

Applications should be submitted in English by 08/09/2025 at midnight at the latest. Candidates will receive an acknowledgement of receipt.
