KBF & Helios Foundation: Project call ‘The challenge of decarbonisation’

Research

Funding organisation:

Koning Boudewijnstichting

What?

KBF & Helios Foundation have launched the project call 'The challenge of decarbonisation'.

The current climate crisis is the result of excessive greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, this climate crisis occurs in a more general context of environmental crisis (loss of biodiversity, pollution, depletion of natural resources, etc.). Decarbonisation is one of the central solutions to the climate problem and should be considered in a systemic socio-ecological context.

To honour its international and European commitments and make full use of the opportunities that a transition to a sustainable society and economy can offer, Belgium must shift to a carbon-free economy and an equitable ecological transition. That transition requires profound changes in the way we produce, consume and work.

This call is open to any initiative leading to a reform in the extraction and management of raw materials, of production, transport, consumption, recycling and management of waste or the organisation of society, enabling a significant and demonstrable reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The call is also open to any applied research project that is close to implementation.

The call is open both to solutions in the form of direct reduction of emissions and applied research into innovations that seek to promote and accelerate decarbonisation.

The total budget of the requested support must be between (minimum) EUR 2 million and (maximum) EUR 3 million. Such funding is intended to last for a maximum of five years, with a review after two years to confirm the continuation of the funding.
