What?

With this funding channel, the FWO supports coordination activities of international collaborative associations. The funds are used for general scientific coordination and administrative management of the collaborative association (excluding the actual scientific research). The collaborative associations concerned are those created within the context of multilateral and supranational bodies such as - but not limited to - EU, UN, OECD, UNESCO, or WHO.

The proposal should help ensure the support and anchoring of an international coordination function in Flanders. In practice this function may include several tasks, including general coordination and management of the collaborative association (excluding the execution of scientific research), data management and dissemination, and the development of a portal site.

Important note: the funding can’t be used for costs covered by other funding programs, nor can it be used for actual scientific research. For example, it cannot be used to cover the costs of the coordinating role in a COST network or in a Horizon project. 

International Coordination Actions have a duration of 3 years and the maximum annual sum of funding is € 75.000. 

Who?

Applicants are appointed for at least 50% as an independent academic staff member (ZAP) of a Flemish university.
It is recommended to include all stakeholders (also other universities) active in Flanders in your application. 

Application?

The Application form can be found on the FWO website and needs to be submitted via email to interprog@fwo.be. Be aware that it is essential to update your FWO E-loket profile.

Deadline for submission: 1 April 2026 (5.00 pm).

The FWO Cross-Domain Panel (CDP) performs the evaluation in June and advises the board of trustees, who takes a decision in June.
The International Coordination Action starts in January 2027.
