As a Ukrainian refugee, can I study at Hasselt University?

Master programmes are offered in Dutch and English.

We offer five English master programmesMaster of Interior Architecture, Master of Management, Master of Biomedical Science, Master of Transportation Science, Master of Statistics and Data Science

The admission requirements for these programmes do not change, however we will be as flexible as possible regarding the application for Ukrainian refugees. 

All of our bachelor programmes are taught in Dutch.

Unfortunately, Hasselt University does not offer a preparatory year to learn the Dutch language. Other universities in Flanders do offer this preparatory programme. You can find more info about it on the next website: www.studyinflanders.be/practical-information/learn-the-dutch-language

How can I apply for a degree programme at Hasselt University?

The admission requirements for these programmes do not change, however we will be as flexible as possible regarding the application for Ukrainian refugees. 

Can I transfer to Hasselt University and continue my studies there?

It is not possible to “transfer” to Hasselt University. Applicants interested in transferring must apply as a new student via the regular application procedure.

If admitted, students have the option to request an exemption of certain courses in their study programme at Hasselt University.

Can I study medicine at Hasselt University?

Unfortunately, we offer the medicine bachelor programme in Dutch only, not in English.

In Belgium, there is a national entrance examination for medicine and dentistry studies, which is organized by the regional government. Since our university is located in Flanders, the Dutch speaking part of the country, this examination can only be taken in Dutch.

To get admission for the medicine programme, you need to pass the national entrance examination and be ranked positively. You also need to apply via the regular application procedure.

Can I study a preparatory year Dutch at Hasselt University?

Unfortunately, Hasselt University does not offer a preparatory year to learn the Dutch language. Other universities in Flanders do offer this preparatory programme. You can find more info about it on the next website: www.studyinflanders.be/practical-information/learn-the-dutch-language

What is the tuition fee for Ukrainian students?

The tuition fee for Ukrainian students with temporary protection is 115,80 euro for the academic year 2022-2023 (Flemish Decree from April 20, 2022 - art.10, p.32).

I am coming to Hasselt University. Where do I find housing?

Hasselt University does not have rooms under its own management. You can find a room from a private owner on our housing database that offers more than 2500 student rooms.

Find your room by entering your conditions in the (advanced) search functions. When you’re interested in a certain room, you need to contact the landlord. You can find the contact information in the room details.

Why rent a room from our housing database?

- free tenant liability insurance (not for doctoral students), if you provide us a copy of your rental contract before 31/10

- mediation by the housing service in the event of a conflict between you and the room owner.
