The physiotherapist in 2025 is no longer the classic massaging therapist. It is a rehabilitation specialist who helps people whose functioning is hampered by illness, intervention or accident, back on their way to their place in today's society. With attention to the human nature behind the muscles, the person behind the disability and the environment around the patient.
You can become that physiotherapist.
The faculty organizes a 3-year academic bachelor's degree and a 2-year academic master's degree program within Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy. The faculty also provides education in the inter-university master's program in Occupational Therapeutic Sciences.
A physical disability as a result of an accident or serious condition, a cognitive disability or experiencing pain or great fatigue has a major impact on daily life. Rehabilitation aims to limit this impact through recovery, eliminating loss of function through compensation or learning to deal with limitations or symptoms.
This can be done via a monodisciplinary approach, for example by an independent physiotherapist, but for a large number of conditions a multidisciplinary approach is necessary for adequate treatment. Here, rehabilitation is not only focused on the medical aspect, but also on functioning in one's own environment.
²&Rehabilitation is therefore characterized by many disciplines and domains, both physically and cognitively. With support for the rehabilitation fund, the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences can play an important role in supporting education, research and social projects.
