Welcome at UHasselt. On this page you will find useful information that you need in order to finalise your registration. Kindly read everything thoroughly. We hope to see you at the beginning of the academic year.

How can you register at UHasselt? 

1. As a new student (2022 - 2023)

You can register as a new student when you are admitted to one of our programmes & paid your tuition fee.

2. For this academic year (2021 - 2022)

If you want to register for this academic year, you'll need to ask permission via the academic advisor of the study program of your choice. Follow the steps that are required to receive admission.  

3. By doing a re-registration

From your second consecutive year at UHasselt, you need to re-register.  

4. After an interruption

If you have already been registered at Hasselt University in the past and want to register again after an interruption of your studies

As a new student (2022 - 2023)

Congratulations! It is time for you to finalise your registration and officially become a student at Hasselt University. You'll have to complete 3 steps: 

Step 1: Application process

Follow our application process as a first step to be admitted to one of our study programmes.

Step 2: Pay the tuition fee

After you've been admitted to the study programme of your choice, you'll have to pay the tuition fee.

Step 3: Final registration

Final registrations are open from June 27, 2022. To finalise your registration, you'll need to book an appointment with a staff member of the student administration.

International students have to finalise their registration on campus. However, distance learning students can book an online appointment.

Google Meet will be used for all online appointments.
Once you book your appointment you will receive the link along with extra information.

Or on campus

All on campus appointments will take place at our registration desk in city campus Hasselt located in the Old Prison building, Martelarenlaan 42, 3500 Hasselt. Location and accessibility Hasselt Campus.

You are welcome to bring one friend or family member. Due to the ongoing Covid19 pandemic, a maximum of two people can be present - you and one close contact person.

From 27 June 2022, you can register at the following moments:

Any week day between 09:00 to 16:00:

  • from 27 June until 8 July
  • from 16 August until 19 September

Or on Saturday between 09:00 to 12:00 (on campus appointment):

  • 2 July
  • 3 September

What do you need to bring in order to register?

  • Identity card or passport.
  • Official diplomas.
  • International master students - letter of admission.

How can you pay?

International students receive payment instructions the moment they are admitted.
Non-EEA students can finalise their registration only after receipt of payment.

Orientation programme

At the start of each semester an orientation programme is organised for international students.
You will receive useful information on anything from Belgian culture to administrative procedures within the university. The orientation programme further offers the opportunity for you to meet other (international) students.

Be sure to arrive in Belgium before the start of the orientation programme and before the start of the academic year.

By doing a re-registration

From your second consecutive year at Hasselt University, you need to re-register in 3 easy steps.

Step 1: take action

Starting from the 11th of July, you can re-register by making a request in your student file. Do this before the 30th of September (included). Otherwise, your account (username and password) will expire. Please contact the student administration office when this happens.

Step 2: you'll receive payment instructions

After re-registering, you'll receive an email with instructions to pay a deposit. The deposit is part of the tuition fee for next academic year.

Step 3: pay the deposit

Pay the deposit before the 1st of October and you're ready for next academic year!

After an interruption

If you have already been registered at Hasselt University in the past and want to register again after an interruption of your studies, you have to register at the registration desk in the Old Prison - City Campus Hasselt. Send an e-mail to studentenadministratie@uhasselt.be to make an appointment.

As a PhD student

Congratulations!

To register as a PhD student, you'll need to be admitted by UHasselt.

Are you admitted? Perfect! You can finalise your registration in two steps. 

Attention: You don't have to do a pre-registration if you were a student at UHasselt. You can book an online or face-to-face appointment right away!

We always ask to start your pre-registration because we need to have a clear view on your study path. Your master diploma is the most important document as a PhD student. The last step is "Uploads/Downloads" where you can upload all the required documents.

Book an online or face-to-face appointment when your pre-registration is completed.

What do you need to take with you in order to register? 

  • identity card or passport
  • Official diplomas (master diploma is important!)
  • A document that proofs that you can start as a PhD student (mail from your promotor or contract from the staff department).

As an exchange student

Congratulations on your (first) international experience in Belgium!

After your arrival, you'll have to register at the Student Administration office (Martelarenlaan 42, 3500 Hasselt) to complete your registration and receive your student card. Find out the Location and accessibility of Hasselt Campus.
