Reader pass Municipal Library Hasselt Limburg (Bibliotheek Hasselt Limburg)

Students and staff of UHasselt can make use of the collections and services of Bibliotheek Hasselt Limburg (BHL). From the 2026–2027 academic year onwards, you can register directly at the BHL reception desk. There is no separate registration through UHasselt or a separate registration form.

Students

UHasselt students are entitled to free BHL membership upon presentation of a valid student card.

Staff

Staff members can also obtain free BHL membership:

  • Staff members who live in Hasselt can register free of charge upon presentation of their identity card.
  • Staff members under the age of 26 can register free of charge upon presentation of their identity card.
  • Staff members with a teaching assignment are entitled to free membership upon presentation of their activated Teacher Card (Lerarenkaart) in the Lerarenkaart app. The Teacher Card can easily be activated via itsme® or MyGov.

If you do not fall into any of these categories, you can obtain BHL membership for €8. As a UHasselt staff member, you can subsequently claim reimbursement via FINTRA. The cost should be charged to the central cost centre LGBHL. When registering, ask for proof of payment. Both the reception desk and BHL’s payment terminals can provide proof of payment.

Bibliotheek Hasselt Limburg – practical information

The Dusart branch specifically caters to higher education.

You will find:

  • specialised information collections covering 15 subject areas;
  • a digital library;
  • special preservation collections housed in three storage areas, which can be consulted and/or borrowed from;
  • literature, music and film on the first floor;
  • study and work spaces on all floors;
  • a reading café and terrace offering hot and cold drinks at student-friendly prices;
  • free wireless internet throughout the library.
