Dries manages academic research projects within the Analytical and Circular Chemistry group. He obtained his PhD in Bioscience Engineering at KU Leuven Kulak in 2013. Dries obtained two successive FWO postdoctoral fellowships focusing on the processing of microalgae biomass as novel source for biofuels. He was visiting scientist in 2015 at the National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL, CO USA) and at the University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney, Australia) from 2016 till 2017.
