Dr. Vijay Prashad is a historian, journalist and intellectual. Born in Kolkata, India, he earned a PhD at the University of Chicago, and served as a professor of international studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He is currently the director of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, as well as an editor of LeftWord Books and chief correspondent at Globetrotter. He has written more than 20 books. His book Imperialism for Beginners, along with two other books co-authored with Noam Chomsky, have been translated to Dutch and published by EPO.

In his lecture, Dr. Prashad will examine how today’s geopolitical landscape is deeply shaped by the legacies of colonial and imperial domination, as well as by the enduring struggles for emancipation that have challenged them. Among the most powerful contemporary expressions of these struggles is the global movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people, which has mobilized millions around the world in opposition to the genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. This movement, marked by the emergence of the largest wave of student activism in decades, reveals how popular resistance continues to redefine global power dynamics and revive traditions of international solidarity.

Following his analysis, Dr. Prashad will engage in an open conversation with the audience, particularly with students, on the meaning of solidarity and social change today.

The lecture will be held in English.

Participation is free, but please register below before 27 November 2025.
