What?

Not every healthcare provider knows every rare disease. Still, chances are high that they will meet a patient with a rare disease at some point in their career. This can be decisive for the patient and their loved ones, as the earlier the diagnosis is made, the better the patient can be supported and treated.

Therefore, the Fund for Rare Diseases and Orphan Drugs has launched this call to increase awareness of rare diseases among healthcare providers.

This call suports concrete projects that sensitize doctors and other first- or second line healthcare providers, as well as departments of hospitals and non-specialized healthcare institutions, about rare diseases.

Initiatives can take different forms, as long as they:
- help healthcare professionals better recognize known or less known rare diseases, so they can adequately respond to certain signals;
- help healthcare providers to guarantee optimal follow-up, so patients are continuously treated as the most appropriate level of care.

Some examples (non-exhaustive):
- e-learning for general practitioners;
- meetings with healthcare professions with expertise in rare diseases;
- awareness initiatives for students in medical and para-medical jobs;
etc.

Initiatives should concern rare diseases or clusters of rare diseases in general, not one or more specifically.

The total amount available for this call is €150.000. Per project, the maximum amount of support is €25.000. This number depends on the target audience, reach and potential impact of the project.
