General hospital with three campuses and a very wide range of services. As a student one will be mainly active on the acute traumatology department.

This service receives many traffic victims with often complex pathological cases: polytrauma, threat to vital systems such as heart, lung and kidney function, whether or not present brain trauma with possible coma. Treatment goals are usually in function of supporting these vital functions.

1. Department: Ambulante Cardio/Respi Reva
The physiotherapist in question takes initiatives and decisions with a view to these treatment goals. The emphasis here is therefore on high-level clinical reasoning. Not easy but educational. The physiotherapist sometimes uses very progressive forms of therapy and is prepared to support a thesis. The student encounters patients fighting for their lives. Some patient don't win this fight; be prepared.

In addition to the work on this service, the student will also be active on other services, such as neonatology and cardiac surgery department.

Registration before start internship

To be able to start your internship in a hospital or other facility of ZOL, you need to register minimum 14 days before the start of your internship.

This is necessary for the processing of all student information and manufacturing of a student ID linked to your placement.

Students that are not (correctly) registered, can not start their placement !

The registration is in Dutch and takes some time. Be sure to make an appointment with your internship supervisor (UHasselt) in due time.

Work clothing and working hours

Attire:

  • Attire: white medical pantsuit is necessary

Working hours:

  • Working hours: 8.45u - 17.15u

Meals:

  • There is the possibility to eat a warm meal in the staff canteen for the democratic price of €3. Soup and water are free of charge for students and staff.

COVID Regulations:

  • Students will be asked to have a COVID Safe ticket to be able to be present in meeting rooms or aula.
