Research

My research contributes the field of head and neck pathology and tissue regeneration.  We use neural crest derived cells, 3D printed implants, hybrid organoids and scaffolds. I was member of the research team that developed and implanted the world first 3D printed custom made titanium implant. I contributed to 194 A1 publications and guided over 22 PhD students as a (co)promotor.  In 2020,  I was granted the “Distinguished Scientist Award on Pulp Biology and Regeneration” from the International Association for Dental Research, Alexandria, USA.

Core Techniques

  • Light microscopy
  • Virtual microscopy
  • Electron microscopy
  • Mineralised tissue microtomy and bone implant interface
  • Cone beam CT – High Resolution MRI –Histology matching
  • 3D printing (CaP, Ti)
