In this collaboration between TU Wien, Finstral and UHasselt (faculty of Architecture and Arts, research domain Trace) we are taking the recently published book “Reuse in Teaching” as an opportunity to discuss the future of architectural education and practice over the course of one year with significant figures in four European cities where the culture of adaptive reuse holds special significance.
This event is modorated by Lorenzo De Chiffre and Katharina Paschburg, (TU Wien). Guests around the round table are:

"Reuse in Teaching – The Future of the Architectural Design Studio" explores how working with adaptive reuse is reshaping architectural education. While refurbishing and recycling buildings is becoming mainstream practice, teaching methods in architecture schools have yet to catch up.
Working with existing structures in an academic context is demanding – it calls for more time, resources and different approaches to studio work. Based on a research project at TU Wien, this book examines the methodology of three distinct design studios, complemented by contributions from international experts.
Unlike most recent publications on adaptive reuse, which focus on case studies of completed projects, Reuse in Teaching addresses the theoretical and pedagogical implications of the shift from new build to an architecture of transformation. It fills a critical gap in architectural discourse, offering a systematic yet multifaceted framework for integrating reuse into design studio teaching.
