Lecture on Iran | Woman, life, freedom: Gender-based state violence and the (counter)revolutionary uprising in Iran

Iran introduced Islam as a form of governance in 1979, supported militants abroad, and defied international norms. In September 2022, protests erupted across Iran over the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurd detained for inappropriate dress. The largest demonstrations in years quickly evolved into calls for the ouster of the supreme leader and an end to the Islamic Republic. Security forces responded with deadly force, and many demonstrators were taken to prison.

As a university, we want to highlight the violation of human rights in Iran and invite you to a lunchtime lecture on this current topic by Dr Ladan Rahbari.
