To mark the tenth anniversary of the Limburgs Universitair Centrum (now UHasselt), a remarkable publication appeared in 1983: Cum Laude. This bibliophilic work offered a playful tour through the university’s early years, combining the sharp, witty texts of Pieter Jan Van Eyck with the expressive drawings of Steven Wilsens.
The publication consisted of ten A3 sheets on thick, high-quality paper and was printed in a limited edition of 250 numbered copies. After a brief introduction, Cum Laude takes the reader past familiar locations on campus: from the agora and the library to the restaurant, lecture halls, notice boards, laboratories, and common rooms.
More than just an anniversary publication, Cum Laude is a document of its time, capturing the academic life of a young university with humour and imagination.
