"I am still deeply honored to have been selected as a Young Scientist at the 8th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Economic Sciences. Together with Nobel laureates and other young scientists, I had the chance to explore pressing and emerging topics such as the fragility of financial systems, the role of innovation, the future of AI and its impact on society, and the challenges of climate policy. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from leading scientists, share research, and gain both professional insights and life and career advice", Tuan Nguyen says.

"While the lectures were inspiring and intellectually cutting-edge, I found the more personal, informal conversations to be the most enriching", Tuan says. "I was fortunate to share a lunch with Robert Aumann and hear his remarkable story of moving from mathematics to game theory, including the influence of John Nash—whose life famously inspired the film A Beautiful Mind. Later, as we walked through the charming island town of Lindau, I asked about his most recent work on human consciousness (he continues publishing even at the age of 95). He not only responded with enthusiasm but even invited me to share my reflections with him via email."

On other occasions, Tuan Nguyen had the chance to have a coffee with Roger Myerson, a dinner with Lars Peter Hansen, and a memorable conversation with Daniel McFadden, the pioneer of discrete choice analysis. "These moments reminded me that Nobel Laureates are not distant, untouchable figures, but deeply human—marked by warmth, humility, attentiveness, and sharp intuition. For me, this realisation was as inspiring as their scientific achievements: they are the giants whose shoulders I aspire to stand upon one day", Tuan tells.

"I am sincerely grateful to the FWO for their nomination and support, which made this experience possible. At the same time, it is a pity that I was the only Young Scientist from a Belgian institution (and one of only two Vietnamese participants) to take part in this meeting. I truly hope that in the future, more talented scientists from these communities will be represented at such unique and transformative gatherings", Tuan concludes.
