Prof.Dr. Patrick Ceyssens is a visual artist, docent Image Analysis & Image Thinking at PXL-MAD, School of Arts and active as a researcher and coordinator within the UHasselt-Frame research group.
He studied painting and print making at the KASK in Ghent and received his Phd (‘From looking to visual thinking’) at UHasselt in 2018. His original dissertation and artist’s book, with the same name, were also published at that time.
Belgian artist Patrick Ceyssens masters the art of making the subdermal function of images tangible. His body of work is intertwined with two connecting threads. On the one hand, Ceyssens broaches the memory theme and its deceptive enchantment. On the other hand, his work is never quite lost in melancholy and romance, as it will always present a disruption or breach, making the workings of the image no longer separable from memory function. The mind becomes our only canvas.
