Good academic research is the foundation for good academic education and is an important link in the innovation chain.
BIOMED conducts multidisciplinary research in three main disease areas: immunology, neuroscience and cardiovascular disease and aims to translate scientific discoveries into applications that contribute to a healthy society in line with the civic ambition of Hasselt University.
CMK research addresses environmental challenges of high societal urgency that cut across the boundaries of specific disciplines, such as, for example, air and soil pollution and the associated health effects, biodiversity loss, and global climate change.
DSI unites data scientists from various disciplines to innovate concepts, methods and software tools for data contextualization, extraction, integration, analysis, modelling, interpretation and data sharing. DSI's methods and tools are applied to important societal challenges in full collaboration with partners in the life science, environmental, logistics, BI, .. sectors and with an open science mindset.
Imo-imomec brings together chemists, physicists and engineers to conduct multidisciplinary materials research. This with a focus on advanced material systems for a sustainable and healthy society. Our core domains: energy conversion, energy storage, sustainable materials, sensors & healthcare materials, and quantum technologies.
The research of the Expertise centre for Digital Media focuses on several core competences: Visual Computing, Networked & Secure Systems, Intelligible Interactive Systems, Computational Science, Computational Design & Fabrication and Data Intelligence & Computation. EDM is active in the full range of the research continuum: from fundamental to basic and applied research as well as contract R&D
The Limburg Clinical Research Centre (LCRC) is a unique collaboration between Hasselt University, Jessa Hospital and the Ziekenhuis Oost-Limburg (ZOL). We want to improve our healthcare, by combining both academic research and clinical practice. As an internationally oriented academic-medical knowledge center in Limburg, LCRC aims to form an important stimulus for top medical care, academic education and healthcare innovation in Limburg and Flanders.
At IMOB we shape future mobility by providing scientifically sound solutions to major challenges faced by society and industry.
Good academic research is the foundation for quality academic education and is an important link in the innovation chain. The research of the faculty focuses on a number of spearhead areas. Several of these spearhead themes are closely linked to socio-economic challenges and opportunities in the region: entrepreneurship and the management of family businesses, environmental economics, logistics and diversity in organizations are some examples.
The Construction Engineering Research Group (CERG) focusses its research on the analytical, numerical and experimental assessment of the technical design of both structures and road infrastructure. In doing so, CERG wants to facilitate the transfer from fundamental research towards practical applications and into practice.
The REVAL research group at the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences focuses on interdisciplinary and technology-supported research within rehabilitation, with a focus on clinical applications in practice. Here, the focus is on the individual with the aim of promoting each person's functioning, health and well-being. Through the service platform ReLab, contract research is also possible.
ArcK: research in architecture and interior architecture
ArcK conducts multidisciplinary research into the built environment around important societal challenges. Our design-oriented research is structured according to five core themes: "repurposing heritage", "sustainability of buildings", "participation in spatial transformation processes", "experience, well-being and inclusion", and "artistic research". ArcK's research fits seamlessly with the civic ambition of our university.
MAD: research in the arts
MAD-Research (Media, Arts & Design) aims to set the tone in the artistic research field, exploring the complex relationship between media, art and society. The focus is on research based on public space, research that approaches the (art) object from a cross-disciplinary approach, and research into different media that blurs the boundaries of traditional text and image.
Centre for Government and Law (CORe)
The Centre for Government and Law (CORe) is the research group of the Faculty of Law, which consists of a unique collaboration across the various legal domains. CORe's research focuses on the relationships between citizens and government, for example in constitutional law, administrative law, environmental law and tax law.
